daily skincare routine: spring 2018

So I've been obsessed with skincare products since I started college a few years ago, and I've had my fair share of skin ups & downs. Then, to my surprise, I've recently been dealing with some pretty bad cystic and hormonal acne that started around August, and I'll tell you the reason later on. BUT-- my skin is FINALLY clearing up, and I 100% believe that it is because of these next few steps:

Step 1: Prep

Before washing my face at the end of the day, I always use a micellar water to dissolve away all my makeup. This way, my cleanser can focus on getting deep into my skin and cleaning out oils and dirt, instead of just smearing my makeup around! I just squeeze a little onto a cotton pad and gently rub it over my face and eye area to remove all traces of makeup.

I've been loving this Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water because it's only $6 on Amazon, but I also love Bioderma's Micellar Water, as well as La Roche-Posay's.

Step 2: Cleanse

I have been using Eau Thermale Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser Lotion for about a month now, and believe me when I tell you that this is the best facial cleanser I have ever used! It is quite odd at first, because it has a formula that is quite different from a regular cleanser; it does not bubble or foam at all, so you just have to massage it and let it glide all over your face. Although it was strange, I have grown to love it and I really feel like this stuff is literally dissolving away the dirt in my pores, while being SO gentle on my skin. If you end up trying anything from this list, try this cleanser!

However, I think a huge factor in what makes the Avene cleanser work so well for me is that I always pair it with my Clarisonic Mia 2 , along with my Deep Pore Brush Head. I know clarisonics don't work for everyone, but ohhh man do they work for me!! But some things to note about a Clarisonic before you start using one is to always use their brush heads! I used off-brand heads for a while and my skin never looked as good as it does now after using the deep pore head. Plus, don't forget to change out your brush head, or at least take it off and give it a good cleaning. I took mine off after several months, and I was horrified to see how gross it had gotten, and that I had still been using it on my face :(.

But on a brighter note, my skin has never felt better after combining a new Deep Pore Brush Head with the Avene Cleansing Lotion.

Step 3: Tone

Everyone has heard of Thayer's Witch Hazel Toner, and they're right when they say how great it is! I just apply some to my face using a cotton pad, and it leaves my skin feeling extra clean and ready to absorb the moisturizer in the next step.

Step 4: Moisturize

I always try to start the moisturizing process with an eye cream, Origins GinZing Eye Cream in particular. It comes in a teeny little pot, but it has lasted me for years. This particular eye cream really brightens the eye area, and just makes me look more fresh and awake.

Last most definitely not least is Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream. This moisturizer is perfect for my skin type (combination), as it is heavily moisturizing while still being lightweight! When I use it after doing all of the previous steps, I can really feel it sinking into my skin. An added plus is that it is super gentle too!

PS: Breakouts

You have to try Might Patch Hydrocolloid spot treatment patches!! You just put one of the little dots on a pimple before bed, and it sucks out all the gross stuff by morning, leaving the pimple far less swollen, red, or noticeable. (Plus, they work wayy better if you pop the pimple first, oops.)

Let me know if you try any of these products and if they work for you!!
